Adult Foster Families
The Hale Makua Adult Foster Family Program is a cost-effective alternative to nursing home placement. Foster Families provide a room, meals, personal care, planned outings with family members, assistance with daily needs, and transportation to all appointments. The program requires one family caregiver to be at home providing care and service 24 hours a day. Caregivers are certified by a Department of Human Services, Community Ties of America representative. The Hale Makua professional case management team interviews and works with families to find the right client/family match.
Who is eligible?
This program is for people who:
- Prefer to live in a residential setting and not a nursing home
- Are in need of nursing care and have a physician-rated nursing home level of care need
- Do not display violent or abusive behavior, and do not have a drug or alcohol abuse problem
What does it cost?
The monthly fee for a Foster Care private room is generally about half the cost of a semi-private room in a nursing facility. Medicaid pays for room and board and personal care for clients who qualify. Service costs are based on medical assistance need.
