Hale Makua

Letters of Thanks

The following are excerpts of letters from Hale Makua residents and their family members.

Rehabilitation proves a lesson in care, concern:

The hidden gem of Maui. You’re treated like a king or queen. The people who work there are the greatest. It’s a place where everyone has a smile and a hello. If anything can be done to make your stay a happy one, they will do anything possible that can be done.

It’s a shame visitors can’t experience the aloha that’s shared by all the workers with the patients – but great for locals. What is this gem that exists on Maui? Hale Makua!

I’m glad that when my wife needed rehab she could go to Hale Makua. She’s getting the best care and all the help she could possibly need.

Hale Makua no ka oi.

We received this letter from the son of a former resident:

[During] her stay there, she was treated like a queen. The staff at the East Wing were so nice to her. I appreciate all the help she received during her short stay at Hale Makua. If loved ones are skeptical about putting their family members at Hale Makua, please assure them they will be cared for by the staff. Again, thank you and the staff for caring for my 93-year-old mom.

A former rehabilitation client had this to say about Hale Makua:

I remained in the hospital for 6 days where I began physical therapy until I became stabilized. Those days were a nightmare; I couldn’t find my joy for life anymore. The 6th day a bus came to transport me in my wheelchair to Hale Makua for an assigned month of physical therapy. The darkness began to fade…she wheeled me into this open-air compound full of gardens, past a trickling pond, and on to my room. There was a parade of cheerful, kind nurses and physical therapists coming to my room to greet me and explain how they were going to care for me and help me learn to walk again. Looking back, I will choose the Hale Makua button over the morphine button any day. They saved my life, my spirit, and my outlook.

From the sister of a Day Health client:

I must say that Hale Makua is impressive in its scope of caring, restorative activities and healing atmosphere. I have worked in most areas of nursing, community health, skilled nursing facilities, and as an epidemiologist also, and cannot express the gratitude I feel for your staff and especially Rene, who is the epitome of an excellent manager and caring individual. The participants all appear very happy and content.

A heartfelt “thank you” to you and your staff and may God bless you in your wonderful program.

From the family of a former client:

No amount of words can adequately thank you enough for the love and support given to our mom during her stay at Hale Makua, Kahului. She was treated not as a patient, but as a family member, for which we are most grateful. We know she truly appreciated each and every one of you who were involved with her in some capacity.

These letters are just a few of the many we receive that affirm for us that our compassionate caring does make a difference!
