  • Is there a steady work history or gaps in employment?
    • Is there a history of many short-term jobs or fewer long-term jobs?
  • What are the reasons for leaving previous jobs?
    • Is there good job progression (increase in responsibility, job status, or wages)?

Residence Stability

  • Length of current and past residences?
    • Future plans?

Interview

  • Is the applicant sincerely interested in the position at Hale Makua or just looking for a job or benefits?
  • What are the applicant's career goals?
  • How well does the applicant respond to interview questions?
    • Does the applicant seem well suited for the position?
    • Is personal appearance and conduct appropriate?
  • Can the applicant work shifts or variable schedule if applicable?

References

  • Does the work history check out?
    • If available, what was the applicant's performance and attendance like in prior jobs?

Other

  • How did the applicant conduct themselves during the application process?
  • Are there other applicants whose qualifications are more suitable for our requirements?

Drug Test

  • Did the applicant complete and pass the post-offer drug screening test?

Background Checks

  • Did the applicant pass the state & federal criminal background checks and, if applicable, state nursing registry or licensing agency check?

Normally applicants who are not selected are not given details on why they were not selected. Current employees who are suggesting a friend or relative for hire will not be given the details on a selection decision.

Unlike some companies, Hale Makua may consider former employees for rehire. To be considered for rehire, the former employee should have resigned with notice and have had a satisfactory attendance and performance record. Previous employment at Hale Makua does not guarantee re-employment.
